AIO at IAMCR 2025: Advancing platform observability research
The Australian Internet Observatory is participating in the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) 2025 conference in Singapore this week.
Today, at 10:30am AEST, Dr Amanda Lawrence will present the paper Towards Large-Scale Research Infrastructure for Digital Platform Observability, co-authored with Professor Julian Thomas, under the session “CPT-12 CPT – Dilemmas in Data Governance: Openness, Identity and Security.” The panel is convened by Dr Julia Pohle (Germany) and will take place at The Hive LHS-TR+53 on the campus of Nanyang Technological University.
This contribution outlines emerging approaches to developing robust, scalable infrastructure for independent monitoring and analysis of digital platforms. It forms part of AIO’s broader commitment to advancing transparency, accountability and public interest research on digital media ecosystems.
AIO’s current work focuses on creating tools, datasets and frameworks that enable researchers, policymakers and civil society to better understand the impacts of algorithmic systems and online content moderation. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and technical innovation, AIO aims to strengthen the evidence base for effective digital governance.
