Work with us: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

We’re seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join the Centre for Digital Cultures and Societies as part of the Australian Internet Observatory at The University of Queensland (UQ). We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to a landmark national research infrastructure initiative focused on understanding Australia’s digital environment.

This role offers the opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research team developing innovative methods to observe and analyse the dynamics of digital platforms. Working in partnership with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and leading university collaborators, the Fellow will help advance research that supports greater transparency, accountability, and public understanding of the internet.

A key focus of the position will be the design and implementation of AIO’s citizen science program, which enables communities across Australia to contribute data about their experiences with digital platforms. The Fellow will also play a central role in the development of a participant-facing data donation platform and associated research tools that assist scholars in collecting, managing, and visualising digital data.

The successful candidate will contribute to independent and collaborative research projects, publish in leading journals, engage with national and international research partners, and help shape the methodological and ethical foundations of digital observability research in Australia.

About You

Applicants should hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in a relevant field such as Design, Interaction Design, Human–Computer Interaction, Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Sociology, or Anthropology.

Experience in user-centred design, digital tool development, and user research will be essential, as will the ability to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to the broader research aims of the Observatory.
